Chichen Itza 7: Temple of the Jaguars

The Temple of the Jaguars is named after an jaguar-altar in its Holy of Holies.  It is noted for the preservation of paint on the relief sculptures, that show us how Maya statues and reliefs originally looked.  All were once painted in bright colors like these–blues, green, red and gold.  Many areas which now seem undecorated originally had painted stucco reliefs.
